Derby City

Oh man, spring wants to happen so bad - i can feel it,
and you know i want it too,
i'm listening to bibio and trying to smile,
sneaking outside for a cigarette.

My brother and I peruse movies at 11:30 at night,
he makes me laugh in every isle, kat williams impressions,
something about cheerios and a refrigerator.

The warmth is coming, yes
i can feel it as my little sister reads to me about toads,
and lady bugs.
She stumbles over, but eventually sounds out, the word "hibernation"
I ask her if she knows what it means.
"Nope!" she beams, and then I explain.
I say hopefully all the creatures will wake up soon
and flowers will bloom, as winter winds itself down.
I'm in the derby city, it feels different again,
a dynamic equilibrium
things change but stay the same.

The first fish i got in highschool are swimming in the tropical tank
near what used to be my bed. some of the things on the window sills remain -
a ukulele from mexico (funny), field hockey medal, hand painted box that katie made me,
movie ticket stubs, seashells, proof that i sang in Carnegie hall
i'm not going to cry,
i'm really going to try.
